NATIONAL DE FENCE ACADEMY & NAVAL ACADEMY EXAMINATION (I) 2015.
The Union Public Service Commission will be conducting the National
Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination (I) 2015 at different venues located in 41 centres throughout the country on Sunday the 19th April, 2015 The e-Admit cards for the candidates have been uploaded on the Commission’s web-site http://www.upsc.gov.in, which may be down loaded. Letters of rejection to the candidates stating reason(s) for rejection have already been sent through e-mail provided by the candidates. If any
applicant is not able to down load his e-Admit card, he may contact UPSC Facilitation Counter on Telephone Nos. 011-23381125, 011-23385271 and 011-23098543 between (10:00 A.M to 5:00 P.M) on working days during working hours. The candidate may also send fax message on Fax No. 011-23387310. The candidate may note that no paper admit card will be issued.
2 In case the photograph is not printed or is not visible on the e- Admit Card,
candidates are advised to carry two (2) identical photographs (one photograph for each session) along with proof of identity such as Identity Card (Students I card used by school/college, Voter I Card, Aadhaar Card, Driving License, 
Passport etc.) and printout of e-Admit Card to the venue of the Examination to secure admission in the Examination. Candidates are advised to check their e-mail in case they have sent any representation

Pay Structure and other Allowances for Army Officers and equivalent ranks in Air Force and Navy
Stipend for Cadet Training
Gentlemen cadets receive a stipend of Rs. 21,000/- p.m. (Rs. 15,600/- as pay in Pay Band plus Grade Pay of Rs. 5,400/-) during the entire duration of training. The period of training is not treated as commissioned service.

Qualification Pay and Grant
  • Qualification Grant: Officers possessing certain prescribed qualification are entitled to lump sum Qualification Grant of Rs. 6000/-, 9000/-, 15000/- or 20,000/- based on the qualification held by them.
  • Qualification Pay: The Army Aviators (Pilots) serving in Army Aviation Corps. are entitled to the Qualification Pay, based on the Qualification held by them:
  • Master Aviation Instructor - Rs. 500/- p.m.
  • Senior Aviation Instructor Class I - Rs. 400/- p.m.
  • Senior Aviation Instructor Class II - Rs. 280/- p.m.
  • Aviators holding Master Green Card - Rs. 200/- p.m.
  • Aviators holding Green Card – Rs. 280/- p.m.
  • Allowance: The Army Aviators (Pilots) serving in the Army Aviation Corps. are entitled to flying allowance:
  • Brigadier & above - Rs. 10,500/-
  • Major to Colonel - Rs. 14,000/-
  • Captain - Rs.11,000/-
  • Lieutenant - Rs. 9,000/-
Allowances
In addition to pay, an officer at receives the following allowances:
  • Compensatory (City) and Dearness Allowances are admissible at the same rates and under the same conditions as Civilian Gazetted Officers.
  • kit maintenance allowances of Rs. 400/- p.m.
  • Compensatory Field Area Allowance depending upon rank and area of posting.
  • Highly active Field Area Allowance: of Rs. 6,780/- to Rs.8, 400/- p.m.
  • Compensatory Field Area Allowance: Rs. 4,200– 5,200/-p.m.
  • Compensatory Modified Field Area Allowance: Rs. 1,600/ - 2,000/- p.m.
  • High Altitude/uncongenial climate allowance
  • High Altitude category I (9000 feet to 15000 feet and uncongenial Areas below 9000 feet): Rs. 1,060– 11,200 p.m.
  • Uniform allowance
  • Initial Outfit allowance is Rs. 14,000/-
  • Renewal outfit allowance Rs. 3,000/- for every three years.
  • Transport Allowance
  • Transport allowance is provided to officers who are not provided with Government  accommodation within a distance of 1 KM from the place of duty or campus housing
  • Rs. 3,200/- p.m. in 'A-1' and 'A' class cities
  • Rs. 1,600/- per month at other places
  • Insurance
  • During the first three years of training at NDA, Army Group Insurance fund provide insurance cover for Rs. 8 Lacs on payment of one time premium of Rs. 4250/-
  • In case of relegation an additional Premium of Rs. 770/- per relegated term will be paid immediately on occurrence
  • At IMA insurance fund provides insurance cover for Rs. 40 Lacs without any payment from the Gentlemen Cadets.
  • For those who are medically boarded out of IMA on account of Disability, the cover provided is 50 per cent of the insured amount for 100 percent disability. It is proportionately reduced to Rs.4 Lac for 20 per cent disability.
  • Gentleman Cadets being boarded out with less than 20 per cent disability will be given an ex-gratia grant of Rs. 50,000/-
  • Disability due to alcoholism and drug addiction will not qualify for disability benefits
  • On commissioning, Gentleman Cadets would be covered under the main Army Group Insurance Scheme as applicable to Regular Army Officers.
  • Retirement Benefits: Pension, gratuity and casualty pensionary award will be admissible in accordance with the rules in force from time to time.

Before joining the Academy, a candidate has to agree in writing that:
  • The candidate is not entitled to any compensation for injuries suffered in the training process or for any complications (such as deformity) or even death caused during the treatment for any injuries.

  • If the candidate is dismissed, discharged or withdrawn from the commission because of his actions he will be liable to refund the whole or such portion of the cost of tuition, food, clothing and pay & allowances, received.

  • cost of training including accommodation, books, uniforms, boarding and medical treatment is borne by the Government.
  • Parents or guardians of cadets be required to meet their pocket and other private expenses.
  • If in any case a cadet’s parents or guardian is unable to meet wholly or partly even this expenditure, financial assistance upto Rs. 175.00 p.m. may be granted by the Government.
  • Eligibility for the grant depends upon the parent's or guardian’s income. The income should not exceed Rs. 1500/- per month (Rs. 2000/- per month if more than one son/ward simultaneously undergoing training at NDA, IMA, OTA and corresponding training establishment in the Navy and Air Force)
  • Application for financial assistance should be submitted (after the final selection) through the District Magistrate of his District who will forward the application with his recommendation to the Commandant, National Defence Academy, Pune.
  • Monetary Deposit: Candidates finally selected for training at the Academy are required to deposit the following amount on arrival:

  • Immediately after the selected candidates join the Academy, a preliminary examination will be held in the following subjects:
  • English, Mathematics, Science, Hindi.
  • The standard of the examination in the subjects (English, Science and Maths) will not be higher than that of the Higher Secondary Examination of an Indian University or Board of Higher Secondary Education.
  • Hindi Paper examination is intended to test the standard of the candidate at the time of joining the Academy.
  • Preliminary Training for both academic and physical for a period of three years.
  • Training for the first 2.5 years is common to the three wings.
  • At the end of the three years the cadets (on passing the requirements) will be awarded B.Sc./B.Sc(Computer)/B.A. degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi.
  • In the final year the cadets have specialized trainings:
  • Army Cadets go to the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehra Dun,
  • Naval Cadets to the Cadets Training ship
  • Air Force cadets to AFA, Hyderabad
  • At the I.M.A. Army Cadets are known as Gentlemen Cadets. On successful completion of training (1 year) Gentlemen Cadets are granted Permanent Commission in the rank of Lt. subject to being medically fit in “SHAPE” one.
  • The Naval cadets are selected for the Executive, Engineering and Electrical Branches of the Navy.
  • For the first six months cadets are given sea training on the Cadet Training ship. On successful completion of which they are promoted to the rank of Midshipmen.
  • For the next six months the cadets are trained in respective branches to which they are allocated and are then promoted to the rank of acting Lieutenants.
  • Air Force Cadets receive flying training for a period of 1½ years
  • At the end of 1st year of training, they are given provisional commission in the rank of Flying Officer.
  • After successful completion of further training of six months they are absorbed as permanent commissioned officers on probation for a period of one year.

1. What is NDA Exam ?

NDA stands for National Defense Academy and this examination comes under UPSC (Union Public Service Commission). This examination is only for those students who are interested to join Indian Defense.

2. Who are Eligible for NDA Examination ?

Only Unmarried male candidates between the age of 16.5 to 19 years are eligible for this examination. Girls are not eligible for NDA. To apply for this examination, you have to complete your Intermediate examination. There is no need to score minimum percentage, appearing students are also eligible to apply for this examination.

3. How many wings comes under NDA ?

There are total 3 wings comes under NDA i.e Army wing, Naval wings and Air force wing. You have to choose wings as per your interest and educational qualification.

4. Eligibility Criteria for NDA Examination ?

If you want to apply for all the wings then you have to study Physics, Chemistry and Math's subjects in your Intermediate examination. You have to give preferences to choose all the wings.

If you have not choosen these subjects in your intermediate examination, then you can only apply for Army wing.

5. Why Girls are not Eligible for NDA ?

This is very good question and asked by many aspirants, well the main reason of this was that, the girls are not fit at the age of 16.5 years as compared to boys. Due to fitness reason, girls are not eligible for NDA but after attaines the agee of 19 years, Girls are eligible for Indian Defense. But NDA Examination is only for Unmarried male candidates.

6. How many times students can apply for NDA ?

Well NDA Examination conducted by UPSC, twice in a year and between the age of 16.5-19 years you can appear many times. There is no restrictions in case of attempts.

7. How to fill Application form of NDA ?

NDA Examination application form is available online and you have to fill it online, there is no offline application form available in market, you have to visit the UPSC Online application portal and fill the application form as per the given instructions mentioned in the website www.upsconline.nic.in

8. Fees of NDA Examination ?

You have to pay the fees of Rs 100, either by depositing the money in any Branch of SBI by cash, or by using net banking facility of State Bank of India/State Baank of Bikaner and Jaipur/State Bank of Hyderabad/State Bank of Mysore/State Bank of Patiala/State Bank of Travancore or by using Visa/Master Credit/Debit Card. SC/ST candidates/sons of JCOs/NCOs/ORs are exempted from payment of fee.

9. How to receive Admits card of NDA Examination ?

Eligible Candidates shall be issued an e- Admission Certificate three weeks before the commencement of the examination. The e-Admission Certificate will be made available in the UPSC wbsite www.upsc.gov.in for being downloaded by candidates. No admission certificate will be sent by post.

10. What is the selection criteria of NDA ?

First, you have to appear for written examination and you have to crack the written test first. Those who are selected in written test are eligible for SSB i.e. intelligence and Personality Test. After clear this stage you are eligible for medical test and after clear all the stage you are training. But the examination is not easy and you will have to prepare in advance to crack the NDA Examination because of a lot of competition.

11. What is the pattern and syllabus of NDA ?

The entrance for National Defense Academy comprises of written exam and Interview. In written test you have to appear for Mathematics and General Ability Test. The total marks of NDA Examination is of 900. Selected candidates will appear before a Services Selection Board for Intelligence and Personality Test.
